I was pleased to provide an update on January 6th at the first Community Board #10 meeting of 2011. I reiterated NYRA's commitment to the local community surrounding Aqueduct Race Track and I shared information about NYRA's local community outreach in 2010. All of the members of the Board, as well as those present in the audience, received a commemorative Aqueduct ski cap following the presentation.
On January 5th, Dan Silver, NYRA's Director of Communications, spoke at the Peninsula Kiwanis of Hewlett. Dan gave a detailed account of NYRA's history, showed video of key races and provided insight into the 2011 schedule of race meets around the country. The Peninsula Kiwanis is a fraternal order of volunteers dedicated to improving their local community. The group is interested in thoroughbred racing and we look forward to their future visit to Belmont Park.

NYRA supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association's ("MDA") 2011 Muscle Team event at Chelsea Piers in New York City on January 4th. Jockeys Ramon Dominguez and Maylan Studart joined other professional sports athletes in the fight against neuromuscular disease. Funds raised at this annual event enable the MDA to continue to provide worldwide research as well as fund clinic grants, support groups, orthopedic assistance and the MDA Summer Camp.
